The 2008 Kitchen Trend Report: "Re-naming the Kitchen: Culinary Lab or Family Centre?," by Futurist & Strategist PJ Wade "Of all things essential to us, the kitchen is an excellent personal barometer of change. A lifetime of experience with this vital space, as creator and consumer, lays a strong foundation for extrapolating its potentially shifting function into the future," said Futurist PJ Wade, contributor to the annual KitchenAid Kitchen Trend Report. "Upon realizing the kitchen's potential, the ability to forecast and therefore guide relevant change in other areas will improve drastically. The perspective gained by considering what may be coming is helpful in setting current priorities." PJ's forecasts in the 2007 Kitchen Trend Report were entitled, "Evolutions in an Age-Free Environment" and dealt with kitchen-centric, multi-unit housing and our first age-free environments, and outlined room for improvement in areas that included:

Since the origins of the word 'kitchen' relate only to cooking, these evolving spaces may eventually earn themselves a new name," concluded PJ in that Report.
